Gifts & packaging
In Germany alone, around 20% more packaging waste is generated during the Christmas season than during the rest of the year – that's an additional 120,000 tons.
Gift wrapping paper is often not paper at all, but coated foil – and not recyclable. Better options: newspaper, fabric, or packing paper.
Adhesive tape makes recycling difficult – gifts wrapped with string or fabric ribbon are more sustainable and attractive.

Christmas trees
Around 30 million Christmas trees are sold in Germany every year – most of them from monocultures using fertilizers and pesticides.
An organic Christmas tree from regional cultivation causes up to 80% less environmental impact. A potted tree, on the other hand, can be used for years and planted after Christmas.
