Pyrosensors

Pyrosensors detect thermal radiation in a range between 5.5-14 μm, which is for example, emitted by the human body. The pyroelectrical effect means that a ferroelectric sensor element absorbs the thermal radiation. Consequently, the spontaneous polarisation of the material is changed, which generates a surface charge. This is used for the detection of the radiation. It is important that, the radiation source is moving during measurement. Only then a change in the polarisation occurs (hence the name “motion detector”).
